Join Us for the 15th Annual HemlockFest!

HemlockFest is one of the largest grassroots efforts for saving Hemlock trees, re-introducing the American Chestnut and keeping our waterways clean. A group of dedicated volunteers organize and manage the festival; we are the Lumpkin Coalition, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supporting quality of life issues in North Georgia.

Saving the Hemlocks could have a significant impact on our environment. The Hemlocks are beautiful evergreen trees that not only help purify our rivers and streams and maintain water temperatures, but also provide shelter and food for birds and other animals. We are honored that you will be a part of this GREAT CAUSE!! Any donation you give will go toward SAVING THE HEMLOCKS.

Our History

We began as a music festival and fund-raiser in 2005 at Three Sisters’ Vineyard. The following year we moved to Starbridge Sanctuary, a privately owned property close to Dahlonega and Georgia 400, in order to expand the festival and allow for camping. The event offers music, art, educational workshops, food, canoeing, camping, walking trails, and more in a comfortable and safe atmosphere for all ages and walks of life.

Since then we have hosted over 200 bands and acts to entertain and excite our visitors.

Activities and Fun for All Ages

HemlockFest is a family-friendly event with something to interest people of all ages. Visitors can come for a day, or camp out for the weekend, and enjoy unique food and beverages under the verandas of the old cabin. There are demonstrations of traditional living skills. Kid’s Nature Village is a natural play space where children can connect with the world around them. Dozens of booths sell art and handcrafts from Georgia and all over the world. Opportunities abound all weekend to learn more about the biodiversity of the Southern Appalachians with guided nature walks, live animals, story telling, and environmental education activities.

The Venue, Beautiful Starbridge Retreat

Starbridge Retreat, located just seven miles from historic Dahlonega, GA, is a scenic 50-acre private resort in the foothills of the Appalachians. Starbridge features a 5-acre pond, several acres of wooded primitive camping sites, a shower house, a 150-year-old cabin, and a lighted stage in a field surrounded by forested hills. Sound for the event is produced with clean energy through the use of solar panels. Participants may use free canoes to paddle the pond. A variety of vendors offer an excellent array of menu items. Local beer and wine selections are available for sale to participants age 21 and older.

Lumpkin Coalition

Lumpkin Coalition has been focused on the plight of the Eastern hemlock tree since 2005. HemlockFest is the annual fundraising and educational benefit festival for Lumpkin Coalition, which is a 100% volunteer non-profit 501 (c)3 charitable organization formed to facilitate projects that benefit North Georgia, Lumpkin County, its residents and visitors. It is dedicated to preserving quality of life for all those who share it. To this end, it supports the preservation of a clean and healthy environment, responsible living, and responsible growth. Lumpkin Coalition is based in Lumpkin County, Georgia, with membership throughout the Southeast. All proceeds from HemlockFest are applied to the cause of saving the hemlocks and preserving the integrity of the Southern Appalachian ecosystem.
